TRACK ATTENDANCE

If you have the Attendance Add-On, you can keep track of people attending a facilitated or offline course. The add-on consists of an Activity and a Block. Note that you can only add one Attendance activity per course.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure you are logged in to your EasyCampus as an admin.
  • Determine the name of the course you want to track

Begin

  • On your landing page, click the name of the course you want to track.
  • Make sure editing is turned on and then click the Manage Activities tab.

Manage Activities tab
  • Select the Attendance activity from the Add an Activity drop-down box at the top of the screen. A form for Attendance will display.
  • If you want, change the name of the activity or select a grade. You can also select No Grade if this is more applicable to your purposes.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the form and click the Save and Return to Course button.
  • Display the page onto which you want to place the new activity or resource.
  • Locate the drop-down box with "Add Block" in it. From this box, select Attendance.

Add Block drop-down box
  • The block will be displayed at the bottom of the middle column. Use the small black arrow icons to move it around the page.
  • When you’re ready, click Add to begin defining sessions. The screen will change to help you define a session.
  • If you want to take attendance for more than the first day of the class, click the Create multiple sessions checkbox and use the following guidelines to help you:

Session Date: Select the start date of your course (the first day of class)
Session End Date: Select the last day of class (the last day you want to take attendance).
Session Days: Select the days of the week when your class will meet (for example, Monday/Wednesday/Friday).
Frequency: If your class will meet every week, select 1; if it will meet every other week, select 2; every 3rd week, select 3, etc.

If you’re only taking attendance on a particular day, you only need to set that day in the Session Date field.

  • Enter how long the session will run using the hour and minute dropdowns next to Duration.
  • Enter a description of the session.

Example: Session One

  • Click the Add Session button. You will see a message letting you know the session was added.
  • Click the Continue button and you will return to the Add Session screen.
  • To see your session, click the Sessions tab.

Sessions tab in Attendance block
  • The small green circle to the right of the session allows you to take attendance. You can click this anytime, but probably should wait until after the session has begun to actually enter the data.
  • If you want, click the Settings tab to change the Attendance variables.

Attendance Variables
  • Click a tab to return to the course page with the Attendance block. Note that you can use the options on this block to take attendance, add a session, run a report or export data, and change the settings.

Attendance Block
IMPORTANT: After you take attendance, students logging in can see their own results. It’s a good idea to create a test student account on your campus so you can determine if you want your students to see this data. If not, you can hide the block, place it on a page students don’t have access to (for example, an Admin page) or click the Assign Roles icon in editing move and Override Permissions for the Student Role.
